Announcing the Winners of the Book Giveaway!
A supplemental newsletter from M, who once ate so many Peeps she burped pink foam for a good twenty minutes. It was gross.
It took a few days to sleep off the high from our first event! Big, big thanks to everyone who attended and contributed! How about a recap?
Also, I’m including links to our content creators/big thinkers we’re excited to add to our new community. Please do us a favor and check out their efforts!
Our first reader was Beau Paul from Austin. He’s on Instagram as @joethelionn.
Then, with a mind-blowing reading from his own work was Richard Kadrey. His new book with Cassandra Khaw, The Dead Take the A Train is here. You can find his other latest releases on his website. You can also find him on Instagram. He’s got fiction that cuts to the bone, y’all. Literally.
Then our first salon kicked off. This is just a sampler of what we’ll be holding for our Patrons regularly. Expect this plus more discussion and community Q&A. There’s a tier for every budget and every supporter is valuable to us. Come join us!
First we had Anna Beard presenting on ballet hooligans. Ballet and soccer fandom is… weirdly hostile? That’s a surprise, but I kinda want it to get that zesty again. What do you think? Next, Anthony Buonomo gave a bio on Gerard Thibault, fencing outlier and genius. His goofy style wins matches, and The Princess Bride name dropped him? Wild! You can find them here: Historical Weapons Guild on Instagram and on the web.
Then, we had Laurel Rockall present on the Third Wave Experiment. YIKES! That was intense! Her, and her sister’s, podcast is a great listen! Hightailing Through History on Instagram and on spotify will connect you to their content.
Then, Brandt Hughes presented on the blinding of Isaac Newton. Science seems to be quite the cruel mistress. Fear of the sun is a thing? The value of darkness? Cool stuff to think about. You can find Emergent Beacon on Instagram and YouTube.
Then, Jason played the latest Assassin’s Creed game. We had a few tech issues, and we’re sorting those out. Thanks for bearing with us! We’re adding new books about the history of assassins to our library list now and will be doing library recommendations and book reports for our patrons soon.
Next, the Roll Fast Dice Hard gang reunited with new characters to play D&D in a homebrew setting, GMed by Jason. There were gourd carvings, giant spiders, spikey bards, sassy spellcasters, heavy hitting monks, and some old favorite trouble makers doing battle against the Great God Curcubanth!!!
If you’d like Jason to GM your next game, get in touch! Or stay tuned for when he launches his profile on freelance platforms. He’s a great storyteller and will make for a fun, rules-lite game experience for you and up to five of your friends. We’re even discussing cool add-ons that would make for a memorable event. We can’t wait to launch this!
Finally, we watched the haunted movie, Häxan and did “witchcraft”. Or rather, we explored Jungian preliteral divination and ritual making while cool visuals played in the background. We talked about the history of witch persecution, eugenics, and scientific advancement. We had a great time, and we can’t wait to do even more themed hangouts with our Patrons this year.
And now for the Winners of the Book Giveaway! If you’re one of these folks, be sure to contact us jason@jasonsmurphy.com to give us your deets. You’ve won a book and hangout! Our big winner won our max tier Patreon membership! Holler at us!
